This activity is one of the most popular activities done in Sipi by most tourists which involves hiking to the three waterfalls. The hikes include the Chebokoch Waterfalls, which is 85 meters, Chepkui Waterfall, which is 65 meters, and Kaptogolo Falls, which is 100 meters high, being the tallest waterfall of the Sipi river, which is one of the tallest waterfalls in Uganda.

While being with us for this hiking experience, you will have a great opportunity to visit all three waterfalls while interacting with the hospitable local community, walking through the plantations mainly coffee and banana plantations. You will have the opportunity to visit beautiful caves, both man-made and natural. As the water is sprawling down, it makes some scenic rapid waterfalls and natural swimming pools.

Sipi Falls consists of three major waterfalls Kaptogolo waterfalls, Cheokui waterfalls, and Chepkoch waterfalls.

 

Kaptogolo waterfalls

Your Sipi Falls hike to Kaptogolo Waterfalls is considered the hardest hike and the steepest despite it is a beautiful waterfall and the tallest in Uganda at 100 meters. “We believe that the harder you go, the  more beautiful things come”

 

This Sipi Falls hiking will make you pass through the local homestays, beautiful small waterfalls ” tanoes waterfalls, and the livestock around the hiking trails while meeting the friendly Sabiny indigenous people. This will also give you an opportunity to experience digging with the Sabinys in their farms along the hiking route.

 

While at the bottom of Kaptogolo waterfalls, we may be lucky to witness the people abseiling from the top of the waterfalls to the bottom. It will also give you a great opportunity to swim. There is a plunge at the bottom which is large enough for swimming. During this hike pack your swimming costumes in your bag and enjoy the cool waters of Sipi Falls.

 

During this Sipi Falls hike you will pass through some of the caves (Kaptum cave) where you will witness the crystal stones the community Boys always sell at the falls entrance for souvenirs.

Chepkui waterfalls and chepkoch waterfalls

 

This is considered the easiest Sipi Falls hike compared to Kaptogolo Falls. Chepkui waterfalls are 65 meters and Chepkoch is 85 meters high. During this Sipi Falls hike, at the first waterfall ( Chepkoch waterfall) you will witness the natural creatures.

You will see the natural bright where you will only see the waterfalls but no river flowing on the surface. The water passes underground for about 200 meters and flows from the surface making the natural swimming pool where you will have an opportunity to swim inside the cool and fresh Sipi water.

The swimming pool is not wide but it’s about 13 meters deep which is suitable for cooling after a long Sipi Falls hike before continuing to another waterfall, especially in the dry season from December to March.

This Sipi Falls hike will make you hike through the beautiful small rapid waterfalls that are on top of the second waterfall ( Chepkui Falls). This will give you a cool massage. You should not miss this during your guided hikes around Sipi Falls.

At the second waterfall, you will witness the volcanic features in the caves like the petrified wood mixed with the rock during the melting process which is evidenced by the rocks inside the caves.

This Sipi Falls hike is the most interesting hike you will ever experience in Uganda involving hiking beside the community plantations, coffee and banana plantations, taking beautiful pictures of the livestock along the hiking trails, and the beautiful lush vegetation of the Sipi Falls area.

How far is Sipi Falls from Kampala?

Kampala to Sipi Falls is approximately 277 kilometers and a 5-6 hours drive depending on the traffic on the road. Private cars are more convenient and faster than public cars though most travelers prefer public transportation. We have convenient public transportation from Kampala to Sipi Falls Kapchorwa just on the Nakawa Shell petrol station in Kampala.
They come direct from Kampala to Sipi by either a taxi or bus.
